MUD City

MUD Jeans · 2025 · Designer, Concept Artist, Art Director

The brief

Collaborating with MUD Jeans, we were tasked with envisioning a world 25 years in the future to future-proof their brand and to come up with a new concept for them.

Objective

MUD, the pioneer in our now circular world, has led this integral global shift. With a robust ambition for change, circularity has become core to society. Communities grow with a shared responsibility for the earth and its ecosystems. With the integration of innovative technologies into everyday life, regeneration is prioritised as the blueprint of restoration.

MUD City: A Circular Future

In 2050, the world is rebalancing, and MUD City has set the precedent as the first fully circular city, with many others beginning to follow. Enhanced technologies have fostered a self-sustaining society, relying completely on renewable energy. This new infrastructure focuses on enhancing communal living in unison with joint care for the environment. Cultivating collective spaces to nurture human connection, the city relies on a tight-knit community that thrives in shared experience. Filled with communal gardens, donation hubs, local markets and learning centres, MUD City makes community an experience that connects, stimulates, and educates. In this structure, material and superficial consumption become obsolete. With this shift being led by MUD, the company becomes the frontrunner in demonstrating a circular future. MUD Denim is now the symbol for circularity, weaving the way to a promising future.

Education, Understanding, Advocacy and Action

The design of MUD City is guided by a clear functional objective: to minimise environmental impact while fostering a system rooted in community, adaptability, and harmony with nature. Inspired by the efficiency and cohesion of naturally occurring colonies such as anthills and beehives, the city’s infrastructure follows principles of biomimicry – drawing from nature’s capacity to build adaptable, self-sustaining systems.

The concept functions as a fully circular urban ecosystem built atop the remains of an extractivist past. Its infrastructure promotes communal engagement through shared spaces like community gardens, markets, education hubs and auditoriums that encourage collaboration and exchange. Recycling hubs are central systems that convert waste into resources within a continuous loop. Architecturally, the city is robust yet modular, creating adaptable, multi-purpose spaces that evolve with community needs. The system removes the idea of end-of-life; water is purified and returned to rivers, and materials are constantly repurposed. The integration of Circular Currency gamifies and incentivises sustainability, transforming collective environmental actions into shared social and economic value.

Embedded in these actions, the city creates an integral mindset shift. Together, these interconnected systems demonstrate how thoughtful design and technology can nurture harmony between humanity and its environment.

In 2050, our prototype is a tangible circular city, a beacon of inspiration for a feasible future. The integration of Circular Currency and our subsequent MUD City enables a society that functions symbiotically with the environment, where value is created through sustainable actions and collective care.

Execution

Using Blender and conceptual art, we made a model of what our city would look like.
